Getting Spicy With It

I may be dating myself a bit here but I was recently listening to Will Smith’s “Getting Jiggy With It” on Pandora and it gave me an idea for a recipe title. Now do you see the resemblance? Most people are not aware you can make your own infused oils for making dressings or give your meals additional flavors. Follow the method below. Now that you have your own chili oil you should try making Spicy Tuna Rice Cakes.

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups canola oil
  • 5-6 tsp Dry red pepper chili flakes (or 8-10 whole Thai red chilies)

Directions

  1. Pour the oil in a heavy bottomed pot. Add the chili flakes and heat the oil to 140°.
  2. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 2-3 hours.
  3. Pour the oil into an air tight glass container or mason jar and refrigerate until needed.

Note: The oil will keep for 1 month when refrigerated in an air tight container. When using the oil it is best to scoop out only the desired amount and allow the oil to come to room temperature for 15-20 minutes.
