The Power of Three-Nutella Croissants

Given my culinary background, I often love executing complex meals with a multitude of ingredients. Despite this kind of cooking being fun and rewarding, it’s not always sustainable for the home cook/chef. Sometimes you just want to eat food that is quick and tasty. The Nutella Croissant recipe below is quick because it only requires three ingredients, its tasty because, who doesn’t love croissants?

Ingredients

  • 1 package store-bought puff pastry, thawed but kept cool
  • 3/4 c Nutella
  • 1 egg

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Dust your counter lightly with flour. Lay puff pastry sheet flat on top. Cut the puff pastry horizontally using a pizza cutter or paring knife into 3 large rectangles (side note: the puff pastry may already have dotted lines indicating where to cut).
  2. Using the pizza cutter or paring knife, cut the puff pastry into 2 large triangles (side note: from one corner to the other corner). Do this for the other two rectangles until you have 6 total triangles.
  3. Add 1 tbsp Nutella on the wide end of each triangle, spreading the Nutella so there is roughly 1/2″ border on each edge.
  4. To form the croissants, tightly roll the dough starting with the wider side of the triangle so that it resembles a little taco. Keep rolling the dough until your reach the point of the triangle. Now that the croissant is shaped take the two points of croissant and bring them together forming a U (its cool if you stick the ends together). Place the croissants on a parchment lined sheet pan.
  5. Whisk the egg in a bowl, and brush the each of the croissants with the egg. Place the croissants in the 350°F oven and bake for 20-25 minutes making sure the croissants are golden brown. Serve on a plate and enjoy.
