Who would pass up a warm, soft, spongy dinner roll? I never do. Dinner rolls make perfect sponges to clean your plate. True fact.
Sure it may be a little rude and ill mannered to do in a public restaurant, but let your animal side kick in when dinning at home.
As much as you might not admit at first, I am sure you have been a dinner roll plate sponger before. I find my self doing this with really saucy dishes like lamb ragu (get the recipe), pasta in bolognese sauce, or any other braised meat dish that is really saucy.
Believe it or not Italian’s actually came up with a term for this ritual, it’s called fare la scarpetta.
